*Spring Session students will be in the cast of The Jungle Book, playing at Kelsey Theatre from Saturday, May 18 through Sunday, May 26. $100 fee added to pay for costume pieces, tech and production costs and a The Jungle Book T-shirt for participating students.
Fall and Winter Sessions:
The Fall and Winter Sessions will feature regular classes as in the descriptions below. Hover over each block to see a description of the class. The Spring Session will focus more on rehearsals for The Jungle Book. We recommend that if you plan to take the Spring Session and participate in the Jungle Book, you take all sessions.
If the student opts or is not able to do The Jungle Book, they are welcome to participate in the Fall and Winter Sessions.
Saturday Classes:
Students will be placed in classes according to their age, rather than the grade they are in at school this year.
Saturday, 9 am to 10 am--4 to 6 year olds
Saturday, 10 am to 11 am--7 to 9 year olds
Saturday, 11 am to Noon--10 to 12 year olds
Fall Session: There will be no classes on November 11.
Winter Session: There will be no classes on December 23, 30, and January 13.
Spring Session: There will be no classes on March 30.
The Jungle Book:
Show dates for the show will be:
Saturday, May 18, at 1 and 4 pm
Sunday, May 19, at 1 and 4 pm
Saturday, May 25, at 1 and 4 pm
Sunday, May 26, at 1 and 4 pm
Thursday, May 23, there will be a DAYTIME show for school groups.
Auditions will be held on March 2, the first day of Spring Session. Students in Beginner Patch will not audition. Students in Intermediate and Master Patch will audition. Monologues will be provided well before classes start. Students should decide which characters they would like to audition for and memorize the monologue provided for that character. Students can audition for one or more characters, but must memorize the monologues for all roles auditioning for.
Much like this year, the younger children will only be rehearsing on Saturday mornings until the week before performances start (Tech Week). The older children with larger roles will also be rehearsing one night a week, on the same night each week, either Tuesday or Thursday.
A change this year: There will be two full casts, so the younger children will not be doing all the performances. The performances will be split between the two casts. Please note--During Tech Week, there will be rehearsal every night for both casts.
BEGINNER PATCH
Ages 4 to 6
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Children explore movement and storytelling as they dramatize stories. Through creative drama, children develop expression and self-confidence by playing with language and pantomime. Meets for 10 Saturdays and culminates with a “SHARING” for family and friends.
INTERMEDIATE PATCH
Ages 7 to 9
Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
This class is an introduction to theater and public speaking that will include learning stage directions and public speaking techniques, participating in improvisational games, and doing theater exercises and activities to develop confidence on stage and speaking in public. And of course, Improv games and fun! Each week there is a featured activity with a guest teacher that will include things such as working with costumes, props, stage make-up, and musical theater choreography.
MASTER PATCH
Ages 10 to 12
Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
For advanced participants who are interested in developing their skills as an actor and their public speaking competency. In addition to improv work and further developing their public speaking techniques, the participants in the advanced class will work on developing their skills as actors. This class will include audition preparation, scene studies, and monologue work that will require some practice and line learning outside of class time. Each week there is a featured activity with a guest teacher that will include things such as working with costumes, props, stage make-up and musical theater choreography.
